摘 要

苗族是一个古老的名族,在中国的黔,桂,川等地区都有分布,而苗族的风俗文化也是让苗族屹立于世界民族之林的重要法宝。如今在“一带一路”的倡导下,国与国之间的民族风俗文化交流显得极为重要,而民族风俗文化翻译又是最关键的一个环节。近几年来,贵州大力发展旅游,苗族也是最能代表贵州的一个少数民族,但是对于苗族风俗文化翻译这一方面还存在严重不足,译文翻译错误,翻译没有系统的标准和规范,一定程度上阻碍了民族文化交流与发展。论文的创新之处在于,本人就是贵州苗族人,对苗族风俗文化有全方位的了解,有一定的发言权。本文通过翻译理论的指导,结合翻译策略,翻译方法,研究贵州苗族风俗文化翻译,了解其重要性,大力推进苗族风俗文化向外翻译宣传。

Abstract

Miao nationality is a time-honored one in Guizhou, Guangxi, Sichuan province in China, etc. And its customs are the key to enjoy good reputation in the world nationalities. At present, the national customs communication between countries has been becoming momentous under the development of the Belt and Road, meanwhile, the translation of national customs comes to the first. For the past few years, Guizhou government has taken and will continue to take great efforts to develop tourism, but the miao customs translation, which is the most representative nationality in Guizhou province, remains serious shortcomings, such like translation mistakes and no systematic standards and norms. To a large extent, it impedes the national cultural communication and development. This paper is innovative, for I am miao nationality in Guizhou province, having an all-around command of its customs culture and being qualified for its research. The primary focus of this paper is to do some researches on miao customs translation in Guizhou province and to raise awareness of its significance in terms of translation theories, translation strategies and methodologies for outer publicity of miao customs translation.

The customs translation of miao nationality in Guizhou province by functional equivalence theory

1 Introduction

Stepping into the globalization age, customs translation carries much more significance than before for enhancing the initiative of Chinese culture to go global. However, it is not so much that how to promote the development of chines e customs, but rather that the problems about translation. The small number of customs translations and monotonous style has been leading the customs in a marginal place in the long run, which exerts gigantic impact on external propagation and research. Nowadays, with prosperous development of tourism and foreign communication, a large variety of new requirements and demands are emerging. Out of this, the national customs also look for sally port laboriously. As a matter of fact, the current situation of customs translation is not good for some cultural setbacks. More specifically, people in western countries believe in god and attach great importance on individual power, while Chinese nationalities lay stress on union and piety and other different focuses and details in each nationality. In the most case of customs translation, some religious factors and Chinese value concepts, which are exactly quintessence, are always ignored or even not took into consideration. It is the majority of customs translation that does not showcase the peculiar property and internal essence.

Hence, this paper is going to analyze the customs translation of miao nationality and find some shortcomings under the functional equivalence theory. Firstly, introducing Eugene A. Nida and his theory, to a large degree, lays a foundation to the customs translation of miao nationality. Secondly, of course, the paper will give a brief introduction of customs culture of miao nationality for it is the subject of translation. Thirdly, through various aspects of it, the translation condition becomes the most momentous part of the whole paper. Fourthly, some obvious problems and defects will be discussed after showing the current situation. Finally, this paper is about to introduce translation methods and strategies when translators deal with the issue of customs translation of miao nationality.

National customs are crucial component of magnificent Chinese cultural. Palpably, customs translation researching is playing an indispensable role for carrying forward gorgeous Chinese cultural and enhancing its soft power. Nowadays, international tourists are always lured by unique charm of customs of Chinese nationalities, under this dominant situation, customs translation work of miao nationality serves for advertising miao nationality’s culture, augmenting the number of visitors and increasing their satisfaction index, etc. Not only does the customs translation of miao nationality perfect and promote existing translation theories, but do good to cultural communication and creation between fifty-six nationalities. And the research of customs translation of miao nationality also provides exemplification and guidance for the translation of other nationality to break onefold theory and framework. The customs translation of miao nationality is driving force to claim Chinese culture’s status in the word, a time-honored, prominent, and promising civilization. All in all, after long-term research about miao nationality’s customs translation, translation finesses and methodologies turn to be diversified and bring positive effects to Chinese culture.

Lastly, this paper is innovative, for I am miao nationality in Guizhou province,

having an all-around command of its customs culture and being qualified for its research.

2 Eugene A. Nida and Functional Equivalence Theory

2.1 Introduction of Eugene Nida

Eugene A. Nida is a renowned translator and linguist in America graduated from University of Michigan. According to statistical data, Nida had gone to nearly one hundred different countries and conducted more than one hundred lectures in famous campus. Speaking of this, the proportion of Chinese universities is account for one tenth. In 1997, Nida was invited to present at Shanghai Translation Seminar, meanwhile Zhouhaizhong professor emphasized the valuable contribution and translation thinking of Nida, which had brought great effects in Chinese translation word and would help researchers to explore new and wonderful fields. In his whole life, Nida was addicted to doing researches about translation of Bible. And gradually, he developed his own translation theory, one of the most authoritative classics. Nida had become Christian in his adolescent period, but he never confused religion and academic. Only scholastic matters did he discussed in meetings with no reference to religious issues. Nida had written two-hundred papers approximately, and his first book is Bible translation. Toward a Science of Translating and The Theory and Practice of Translation are his two infusive works.
