1.目的及意义

Pride and Prejudice , is Jane Austen's second and also the most famous novel. Elizabeth Bennet, as the heroine of the novel ,is so charming who is independent and wise. The other book which is studied in my paper, the Lady of the Camellias, which is the most famous novel of Alexandre Dumas Fils , it established his fame as a writer. The heroine in this book is a kept woman, she named Marguerite Gautier. She is a poor girl with beautiful appearance and pure soul.

As both of the two novel in the paper are so well-known that there has been many scholars all over the world explored it from different perspectives. The most popular views about Pride and Prejudice and The Lady of the Camellias is the feminism in the two novels. One of the experts explored Jane Austen’s view on marriage in Pride and PrejudiceMEI Zhi-xin,2013. Marriage has always been a specific angle for scholars to research social values at different times. Marriage in eighteenth and early nineteenth-century England was as much a matter of property as of love or companionship.there was two experts who wanted to explore women's social status and analyze its educational factors with quotes of various characters in Pride and Prejudice(徐邦菲,杨文熙,2017). One scholar thought that marriage is a theme influenced by cultural progress. He believe that economic factor is one of the main elements that people of the early nineteenth century considered when deciding a marriage. The pursuit of economic interest results in the advent of some tragic manages .This is why the views on marriage vary in different eras(张平,2016). There was one expert who took Pride and Prejudice as an example to explore the views of love and marriage in the British and American literature (张韶华,2017). In addition,a scholar who focused on the the interpretation of Pride and Prejudice as female bildungsroman, she believed that To some extent, Pride and Prejudice is not only a novel of social manner and epistolary novel, but also a female Bildungsroman because it is about Elizabeth's transition from girlhood to wifehood(朱蕾,2015). The love view of feminism in The Lady of the Camellias is also a popular theme. A scholar found the spirit of feminism in Marguerite in the novel(金羽炜,2015). One of the scholars praised the spirit of sacrifice for love of Marguerite in the comparison of The Lady of the Camellias and Letter from a Strange Woman(姜婉婷,2017).

Based on all the information or standpoints reflected in these previous studies summarized above, and taking the whole evolution of the plot into consideration, I have had a more complete comprehensive understanding of the two novels. Those points above does enlighten me a lot. However i have realize something new when i studied both of the two novels by my own.

The innovation part of my paper is that it compares the differences and similarities of Elisabeth and Marguerite to analyze the importance of the sense of independence and self-confidence in women. In the past two centuries, there were so many scholars studied the image of Marguerite from the positive perspective, almost all the scholars agrees that Marguerite is the symbol of the feminism. And she is the symbol of courage and independence. However ,in my paper, i will reveal the weak side of her character ,and even to some extend ,she is partly a symbol of anti-feminism .Additionally, by making the comparison of the similarities and differences of the two heroine’s characters , thoughts and behaviors in Pride and Prejudice and The Lady of the Camellias, I will analyze and demonstrate that Elizabeth does do well than Marguerite in some aspect, though they are both the symbol of feminism . By analyzing their different choices towards the difficulty in love , I will explore the right choice in love.
