1.目的及意义

The importance of international communication is due to the increasing effects and influences of globalization. As McLuhan ,the Canadian communication expert,predicted, people would live in a shrinking global village. Nowadays, international communication is widely spread and various, of which the scope encompasses the culture, politics, economics and the advanced technology. In addition, a country’s global voice, to a great extent, is determined by the power and influences of its media. At the Internet era, new media has become the new field of communication , while the traditional media is positively upgrading. So both traditional media and new online media are essential for international communication.

Apart from international background, the soaring of China’s development made our nation stride the center of global stage. As a major developing country, China has responsibilities in international affairs. G20 fringe meeting, BRICS, Bamp;R, these examples show that China is in need of exerting its international influence. What’s more, building a national image is inseparable from publicity, therefore, online English media should take over the task. By analyzing online media, we can better understand the means and situation of news transmission as well as the media environment in the current era.

National image is comprehensive assessment and evaluation about one country from the public of international society, which is closely related to the ways of expression in online media. The image of great nation cannot be achieved overnight. And journalism and communication develop as time progressed. The case study of China Radio International will explore the news in the context of Internet,and its convergence of new technology.

2. 研究的基本内容与方案

This paper will search the pattern to establish a nation’s image through online English media. China has various online media so the author will choose China Radio International for analysis.

Under the background of international communication, the national image can be divided into two parts: the national media image and the national cultural image. In order to form a comprehensive structure, firstly, making a clear definition of national image is essential. Moreover, the introduction to the international communication in this age of Internet is needed. Secondly, the paper mainly discusses the relations between international communication and national image. Thirdly, from the measures of CRI that are adopted to the new media communication environment, we can learn about the tendencies in constructing a nation’s image. At last, the author of the paper draws a conclusion about effects of online English media’s communication.

The research approach includes content analysis .By literature reading , the author will know the basic theory about international communication and new media. Furthermore, by paying attention to CRI’s news, the author can accumulate practical cases.
