A Contrastive Study of the Translator’s Subjectivity-Based on Two Versions of Mr.Almost 基于《差不多先生》两译本译者主体性的对比研究开题报告

1.introduction 1.1 research background mr. about-the-same is a biographical novel created by hu shi in order to satirize those who did not take things seriously in chinese society at that time. cha buduo( the hero of mr. about-the-same) is the representative of many people who never take things seriously and thinks everything is fine. this casual attitude can cause a lot of trouble. as described in the novel, for instance, when he was young, his mother asked him to buy brown sugar, but he bought sugar, because he thought that sugar and brown sugar were not different. working in a bank, he was often blamed by his boss for writing wrong units of measurement. ironically, although the two words in the writing is similar, they are totally different in the meaning. in fact, it's pretty much representative of many of us who end up dying on our own inseriousness and indifference. at the time of his death, he was not serious enough to justify himself, which is really ridiculous and pathetic. 1.2 research purpose undoubtedly, zhang peiji, zhang mengjing and du yaowen are all famous in the translation field. strictly speaking, there never exists a best translation, and the best is always in the unknown. as a apprentice in the translation field, i do not intend to criticize the translations of the three teachers, but to appreciate the translation of the teachers from a perspective of the translator's subjectivity, hoping to learn some translation knowledge and skills to the greatest extent through this process. 1.3 significance of the research as we all know, it is through people's eternal interpretation that literary works are handed down to today and continue to be handed down to future generations. translation is interpretation, and the translator plays a role of an interpreter. as an act of interpretation, the translator's subjectivity has enabled excellent literary and artistic works to be inherited, and will continue to use its great potential to enable literary works to bear national culture and national spirit step worldwide and spread widely. 2.literature review 2.1 overview of translator#8217;s subjectivity with regard to the translator's subjectivity, zha mingjian harbored the idea that the translator's subjectivity refers to the translator's subjective initiative in translation matters for the purpose of realizing translation on the premise of respecting the translation object. its basic features are the conscious cultural consciousness, humanistic character and culture, and aesthetic creativity of the translation subject. gadamer, the chief representative of western modern hermeneutics, directly inherited and developed phenomenology, especially heidegger's theory, and established philosophical hermeneutics. from his perspective, translation is interpretation and translator is interpreter, the infinity of comprehension and interpretation, the principle of effect history and other theories provide a philosophical basis for us to examine the translator's subjectivity in literary translation, and present the philosophical essence of the meaning of subjectivity. translators are the main body of translation and an important participant in the construction of national culture. nevertheless, the main body of translation has been covered for a long time in china's cultural pluralism system, resulting in the marginalization of translators' cultural status. with the "cultural turn" of translation studies, the subject of translation studies has received due attention and gradually deepened. the essence of the subject is embodied in its initiative, passivity and egoism, which constitute the subjectivity of the translator. 2.2previous research at home and abroad it is commonly believed that hu shi is one of the original creators of modern essays. he initiated a "what words" column in the new youth magazine, which collected and quoted amusing or exclamatory materials from newspapers and magazines at that period, added some punchline comments or no comments at all, and denounced them as "what words". admittedly, this type of essay is simple and sharp, which is conducive to expose paradox absurdity quickly. the biography of cha buduo, one of these essays, lampooned those who did not take things seriously in chinese society at that time. hence, the biography of cha buduo is an allegory in the biographical genre. the content is arranged in accordance with the biographical style: narrating the characters at the level of outline before purpose, and taking the cases close to life as evidence, forming an interesting and profound fable. on the other hand, hu shi skillfully used rhetorical devices such as ostentation, parallelism, set off and irony to enable readers to appreciate the serious intentions of the author behind the absurd and funny words by using simple and vivid language and seeing the truth from the facts. zhang peiji(1995) is a renowned chinese translator. his name has been listed in the dictionary of chinese translators and has been playing an increasingly crucial role in the chinese translation realm. for several years, he has been writing for the column of "friends of self-study of translation: chinese-english translation practice" in china translation magazine. these translations are natural and full of literary talent, which fully reflect the translator's translation philosophy and are actually classics of translated works, benefiting flocks of readers and translation enthusiasts. zhang mengjing and du yaowen(1999) have been devoted to the translation field for decades and have made their own contributions to the translation territory in china. therefore, it is of great value to study and compare their translations. i am firmly entrenched in the belief that i can learn some translation insights from this comparison to the greatest extent. as a matter of fact, we all know that the translations of zhang peiji(1995), zhang mengjing and du yaowen(1999) are excellent. as a university student, a comparative study of their translations is not meant to judge their translations and select better ones. as the saying goes, there is no best translation, the best is always next. from our point of view, what we should do is to compare and analyze the translation of the three teachers during this process, to maximize the best parts of their translation, in order to learn the skills they have taken advantage of. in the near future, i will apply these translation skills to my own use and strive to translate excellent works independently. as for novelty, we all know that the purpose of translation criticism on famous translations is to learn the essence of each translation through comparative analysis, and point out the shortcomings, so as to improve the translation level of the critic and the overall quality of the translation. the original biography of mr. cha buduo by hu shi is a biographical fable full of rationality and criticism, which still has a strong enlightenment function in the current society. zhang peiji's(1995), translation adopts plain and understandable language, emphasizing on the clarity and smoothness of the translation. however, the translations of zhang mengjing and du yaowen(1999) tend to faithfully convey the original meaning of the author under the background of cultural differences between chinese and english. therefore, through comparative analysis of their translations, we can judge the advantages and disadvantages of the translation from the perspective of the translator's
