Hemingway narrowly escaped death several times in his life. Although he escaped death, the disaster severely destroyed his physical and mental health. He not only suffers from alcohol poisoning, vision loss, bloody disease and other diseases but also suffers from mental depression, severe decline in creative power, and mental debility. It was Hemingway's bumpy experience and "close contact" with death that made his work full of death consciousness. It is these experiences that make the subject of death the core of his work and the central issue to be elaborated. Ernest Hemingway was thinking about death all his life, but his understanding of death was different at different stages of his life. It is generally believed that his understanding of death is divided into three stages. At first he thought he would never die. In the second phase he thought death was unbeatable. In the end he thought that although human beings could not conquer death, they could mentally overcome death. Ernest Hemingway showed his people the death issue he thought about in his own work. He not only expressed his knowledge of death, but also expressed his deep thinking. There is no doubt that A Farewell to Arms also contains his understanding of death at that stage because this is one of his masterpieces.The purpose of this article is to analyze Hemingway’s understanding of death at this time through the interpretation of the characters’ experiences in A Farewell to Arms. It is an immortal piece of work. Hemingway's understanding of death and his thinking and his pursuit of the value of life is also an important part of the world literature treasure house. By analyzing this article, we can read classic articles and feel Hemingway’s consciousness of death. This is also an inspiration for our future life.Now we generally believe that Hemingway's creation of A Farewell to Arms is in the second stage of his understanding of death. At that time he thought death was invincible. There are many studies that can prove this. Lu huiyu said that Hemingway's naive and fantasy to life in childhood fade away. 2. 研究的基本内容与方案

Death is a major theme in literature. Because of its life background, Hemingway had been in contact with war and death for a long time, and he thought about death all his life. But he had different understanding of death in different stages of life. After experiencing danger in the 1830s, he thought that death was inevitable. Human beings could face death with courage and face, but could not defeat death. This thought has a profound impact on his book A Farewell to Arms. The book expresses a negative and pessimistic attitude by describing the physical and mental wounds of the characters. At the same time, it also describes the isolation that humans feel when bravely confronted with death. His research on the theme of death is of great significance to the study of the spiritual world in the West. The first chapter introduces Hemingway, and the background of his writing of this article, that is, the formation of death consciousness.The second chapter introduces the article image, experience and meaning of expression.The third chapter introduces the significance of Hemingway's death theme.The fourth chapter is the conclusion part.
