1. 研究目的与意义(文献综述)

virginia woolf (25 january, 1882-28 march, 1941) is one of the mostprominent literary figures in the english history as well as a harbinger offeminism. she devotes herself in the reform of novels and the innovation ofart. academic circles’ research on virginia woolf’s female standpoint mainlyemphasizes on feminism thoughts and writing perspective. combining hertheoretical works with her literary works, western scholars have made adetailed analysis that woolf’s most fundamental female standpoint is to beoneself and to be independent. though there is no direct depiction about war inher works, the specialty of her criticism of war is relating the war topatriarchy. from the view of published papers, chinese writers also pay moreattention to her adopt theory of androgyny and female standpoint, which isimplicated by domestic development of feminism literature and criticism inrecent years.

one of her books, mrs. dalloway,in the list of time’s 100 the best english novels 1923-2005, is regarded as theclassic of feminism and stream of consciousness literature. based on this, mostof the related researches adopt these two aspects as point cuts to discuss itsachievement of feminism and steam of consciousness.

zhang ailing (1920-1995), as a notablefemale writer in the period of social change, has experienced wars and socialturbulence in chinese history. due to her peculiar life experience andsentiment of life, the analysis of sexual relations and the discovery ofmetropolis in her works are of great modernism. the process of the domestic andforeign researches can be divided into three parts, shanghai literati’ analysisand comments in the 40s, overseas scholars’ study in the first 40 years afterthe foundation of the country, worldwide scholars’ research after the 80s.especially during the third period, the long-lasting research of zhang ailingmainly includes the female creating standpoint as well as the intention,consciousness and cultural conception in her works.

2. 研究的基本内容与方案

the paper does a comparative study of mrs. dalloway and thegolden cangue in respect of feminist mainly from three parts.

first and foremost, it gives a brief introduction about the two novelsand the two main characters. the protagonist in mrs. dalloway, clarissa,shows her ambition through choosing her marriage and holding parties, yet hasto obey social rules on account of economic dependence on her husband. eventhough she has gotten “her personal room” by reason of mr. dalloway’s busynessat work and ignorance to family trivia, she is ended with deficiency of humanespirit. the main character in the golden cangue, cao qiqiao, fraughtwith desire of existence and love, attempts to collapse patriarchal societysystem and marriage system. however, succumbing to economic shackles, shebecomes twisted and even devastates her child’s happiness at last.

secondly, the paper will analyze the authors’ family backgroundsrespectively. virginia woolf, born at a typical family in victorian era with apowerful patriarchy structure, gradually becomes aware of feminist from theopposite of her mother. zhang ailing, born is a declined officials aristocraticfamily, whose father is a ruthless chain smoker, yet mother is the first groupof overseas students to england and france. it is her mother who enables her toapproach feminist.
