1. 研究目的与意义(文献综述)

A Thousand Splendid Suns, written by theAfghan-American writer Khaled Hosseini, was the best-selling novel in theUnited States in 2007, selling more than 1.05 million copies in the UnitedStates within four days of its release. This is one of his classic works after The Kite Runner. This novel reflects apart of Afghan history, in which families bearing the scars of war anddisplacement, and country is attacked by the Soviet Union, the Taliban and theUnited States. This novel reflects the psychological characteristics and survivalstate of women in this special region under the special rule and religious rule. The novel tells the tragic story of two Afghan women who enduring the sameviolent husband, Mariam is eventually forced to kill her husband, Rasheed, tosave Laila's life. How can two women break through the oppression ofpatriarchal society and realize the awakening of female consciousness in theera of war, which is worth discussing.

Asa matter of a fact, lots of professional critics and reviewers post theircomments about A Thousand Splendid Suns on some influential magazines and newspapers, such as New York Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post, USA today, etc. Most of them give highcompliment about the characters, the awakening of female consciousness, culturalinfluence and so on. Ana takes the following point that from the perspective ofFeminist, Mariam and Laila suffer cruel war and domestic violence oppression atthe same time. Although there is no law to keep women safe at home, Mariam andLaila also try their best to get rid of it. (Ana, 2011) Jamsheed also beliefthat Afghan women face a brutal assault on Afghan society. Rasheed'sabuse and beatings have become routine for Mariam and Laila. (Jamsheed, 2012)Michiko Kakutani, reviewer of the NewYork Times, indicates the author show the reality of Afghanistan, andaffirm his masterful storytelling and his mastery of melodramatic plotlines. (MichikoKakutani, 2007) Domestic scholars also has some points on it. From the socialbackground, some of them focus on the male supremacy in Afghanistan, how theprotagonist realize the independence of self-consciousness and embark on theroad of self-salvation. (何兵, 2018) From the perspective of narration, some people haveanalyzed how Hosseini shaped the character image and highlighted the theme.(徐晓红, 赵琪, 2009) Based on thetheory of post-colonialism criticism, they analyze the historical origin of thelack of Afghan women's identity, and analyze the process of the construction ofAfghan women's identity in A ThousandSplendid Suns from the perspective of gender, society and culture. Most ofthe journals and papers are from the perspective of eco-feminism to analyze howthe two heroines wake up in the depressed environment. The innovation of my paperlies in the application of feminist theory to discuss more about how womenrealize self-salvation and save others in the social context of war.
