1. literature review and background information

this paper mainly focuseson comparing the two different versions: english and chinese versions of people’s daily, which is one of themainstream presses in china. discourse analysis theory is used as the basingtheory.

after the collection andorganization of the relevant information, previous studies and outcomes, it isnot difficult to find that many similar domestic and overseas researches have beendone before, but people’s daily hasbeen seldom studied. also, among the papers and essays that could be found, fewaims at comparing the chinese version and english version news media specially,not to mention the people’s daily.

2. 研究的基本内容与方案

this paper mainly focuseson comparing the two different versions: english and chinese versions of people’s daily, which is one of themainstream presses in china. discourse analysis theory is used as the theoreticalbackground.

based on the discourseanalysis theory, this paper intends to make a contrastive analysis betweenenglish and chinese versions of people’sdaily by choosing the series of reports on 40-year reform and opening-up asthe target discourse, thus to figure out the internal or external communicationneeds as well as the reasons behind the differences and similarities betweenthese two versions. to achieve this purpose, this paper adopts the discourseanalysis theory as the theoretical foundation and the series of reports on 40-yearreform and opening-up from the two versions as the target discourse to carry outa research in three main aspects: the overall comparison including articlenumbers, frequency, styles and the “chinese story” and “chinese image” conveyedby two versions in the same period; the detailed comparison of the articles onthe same day (2018.12.18, the anniversary) or the same article in two versions;and the exploration of the communication needs or the reasons hided.furthermore, relevant suggestions aiming at improving the nowadays reportingmethods in a way will be given in the conclusion of this paper.
