As the recognized pioneer of the Imagist movement in the twentieth century，Ezra Pound made great achievement in imagist poetry writing which has exerted a far-reaching influence on modern American poetry, while Chinese ancient poems played an irreplaceable role in Pound’s considerable success. The present essay attempts to explore the influence of Chinese classical poetry on Ezra Pound’s imagist poetry, by focusing its discussion on the Chinese elements embodied in the contents, thoughts and expression of Pound’s poetry. This research will make contribution to the further study of Pound’s poetry and the thorough understanding of the relationship between Chinese classic poetry and Pound’s imagist poetry.
