1. 研究目的与意义（文献综述）
in many western countries, research on harry potter series have been done since early times and have preliminarily formed a certain scale. when the first book was published in 1997, lindsey fraser said in his passage launched in scotsman that j.k. rowling’s creative narration tells us a thrilling complex story which is thought provoking. then，research on harry potter series have developed into a kind of targeted and directional literary criticism. in 2002, lana a. white’s the ivory tower and harry potter: perspectives on a literary phenomenon, which was the first book of research papers, was published and the author said that the literary value of j.k. rowling’s potter books should be studied in a comprehensive multi-level. in 2003, the essay reading harry potter critical essay analyzed harry potter from three perspectives: children development theory, history theory and social ethics theory. at present, studies on harry potter series have displayed a prosperous scene under diversification perspectives.
2. 研究的基本内容与方案
In Harry Potter Series, J.K. Rowling describes a ‘human’ story by means of a magic world, in which she shows her eager pursuit of truth, virtue, and beauty as well as her brave fight against evil and ugliness. Thus J.K. Rowling expresses her special values in this way. This paper will analyze the practical significances of Harry Potter Series by figuring out three distinctive value orientations. Firstly, the thesis will give a brief introduction about Harry Potter Series in order to outline the development of this story and clarify the course of Harry Potter’s growth. Then, the thesis will illustrate and analyze three practical significances in detail. These three practical significances——Heroism, Feminine Image and Discrimination phenomenon, which refract the reality of western society would be discussed in the thesis. After doing this analysis, the thesis will get a point of view that the author wants to satirize the realistic society through a magic world and reveal the humanistic feelings of Harry Potter Series as well. However, due to the limitation of time, it may not be able to pick up examples completely, and presumably the categories of the practical significances listed are not classified as comprehensively as they can be.
